FaktorTel - What is Voice Over IP and can I use it?

Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using an Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. This new technology is spreading fast and is slated to overtake regular phone lines over the next handful of years because of it's versatility, cost of ownership and quality of service potentials.

Basically VOIP (Voice Over IP) allows you to make a phone call from your computer through the internet to a real phone.

This sounds great but how does this all help me?

Because FaktorTel is able to use VOIP to push phone calls around the internet for free we are able to get your phone call to where it needs to go for almost no cost at all. We then pass that saving onto you.

For example.

If you were to call from your house in Sydney on your FaktorTel (VOIP) phone to a friends house phone (not an internet phone) in melbourne your call would start at your computer and travel over the free internet all the way to melbourne. The cost of the call so far for us is almost free because the call has simply travelled over the internet all the way to Melbourne.

Now, when your call gets to Melbourne we use a special piece of equipment to take your call off the internet and put it onto a regular phone line. From that phone line the call goes to your friends house and your friends house phone rings.

The best part of all, is that the only part of the call that FaktorTel has been charged for is the local call from Melbourne to Melbourne, you see even though you started your call in Sydney your voice made it's way all the way down to Melbourne for free over the internet, which means that the only part of the call which went to a regular phone was the part where we took your voice off the internet in melbourne and sent it to your friends phone in Melbourne. This way for all intents and purposes your call as far as our Telco see's it is a local call.

Using this kind of Technology we are therefore able to offer you great call rates overseas and locally. This is also how we are able to offer 10c calls to anywhere in Australia, because for VOIP (Internet phones) every call is a local call!

Ok, that sounds good, can I use a regular phone instead of a headset?

Most definately. In fact there are devices which are available called "ATA's" which you simply plug into your broadband modem (router or switch) and then also plug your normal everyday cordless or corded phone into the other side of it and it turns your normal phone into a VOIP (Internet) phone automatically.

Ok, but isn't voice quality a problem won't I sound robotic or something?

Not at all. Over the years VOIP has become so good that most large phone companies around the world use it without you even knowing. At FaktorTel we also pride ourselves on phone calls being the same or 95% as good as your regular phone. To put it simply though, most people won't know the difference between a VOIP call and a call with Telstra and Optus.

I run a business, can I use VOIP for my Business?

Yes, you can, VOIP is great for business, in fact businesses save about 50% on their phone bills when they use VOIP and as above most people won't be able to tell the difference. We can even give you advice on how you can set VOIP up to work with your existing PABX. Setup is usually pretty quick and simple.

Alright all this sounds good, what does FaktorTel have to offer?
